Nature Hikes Just Outside Metro Manila
By Cherryl Delerio
Cherryl was our parish social worker for 10 years. She rediscovered her childhood love for hiking amidst the pandemic.
In celebration of Laudato Si Week, we are featuring some nature spots just outside of Metro Manila. Given the proximity to Metro Manila, these scenic spots can be ideal weekend or weekday quick get aways for family and friends looking for a break from the hustle and bustle of the metropolis.
I feel very much alive when I’m hiking. I see, feel and hear God’s beautiful creation.
1. Mt. Tagapo, Brgy Janosa, Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal
At the heart of Laguna Bay is Talim Island, a short boat ride from the port of Brgy. Janosa in Rizal. Mt. Tagapo is the highest peak in the island and the 2 hour trek towards the summit is truly a refreshing experience with a grove filled with flowering plants and greeneries.
2. Mt. Daraitan, Tanay, Rizal
Nestled at the heart of Sierra Madre mountain range, Mt. Daraitan is just a few hours drive from Metro Manila. It is truly an ecotourism site with striking outdoor attractions, such as century-old limestone formations, dark hallowed caves, natural pools, and relaxing springs, this place has now been an ecotourism site.
3. Treasure Mountain, Tanay, Rizal
Located in Sitio Maysawa, Barangay Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, Treasure Mountain is popular among local tourists and hikers with its breathtaking view of the Sierra Madre mountain ranges and its magnificent sea of clouds.
4. Camping at Mt. Bagtas, Antipolo City
5. Maramo River, Norzagaray Bulacan
After a 45 minute hike, we reached Maramo River which reminds me of Palawan. The best way to enjoy Maramo River is by rafting.
6. Dona Remedios Trinidad Cave, Bulacan
Cherryl’s tips: wear long, light and comfortable clothes and hiking shoes or sandals. You may bring food but the locals usually sell food in the campsites. Bring a small tent if you want to camp overnight. Bring home your trash when you leave.
